St. John's Wort - Effect Herb

St. John’s Wort is a highly prized and well regarded mood enhancement and stabilization herb. It has been used to help combat mood swings caused by Seasonal Affective Disorder, minor depression, a change in life circumstance, or general irritability. St. John’s Wort contains two important chemicals, Hyperforin - thought to be useful for its antidepressant qualities, and Hypericin - which may increase dopamine levels. The effects of St. John’s Wort are not instant, and can only truly be realized with consistent use over time, taking up to two weeks to take full effect.

St. John’s Wort may be a natural herb but it can have side effects or other drug interactions. Talk to your doctor before adding St. John’s Wort to your daily regimen, especially if you take any prescription or OTC medication.
